Since my cat passed the age of 18, her once pitch-black fur began to mix with white hairs. I found it interesting to learn that cats, like humans, can develop something similar to gray hair. As she grew older, she stopped coming to the door to greet me and jumped onto high places less often, yet her special seat was always on my stomach, where she constantly comforted me. I painted this while wondering if she were still with me today, would she have turned completely white like a white cat?

18歳を過ぎる頃から、愛猫の真っ黒だった毛並みは白毛まじりになりました。猫にも人間の白髪のようなものがあるんだなあと興味深かったことを覚えています。年老いてわたしが帰っても玄関までお迎えに来なくなり、高いところに飛び乗ることも減って、それでも愛猫の特等席はわたしのお腹の上でいつもわたしを慰めてくれました。もしも今でもまだ愛猫がいてくれたなら、もう真っ白になって白猫のようになっていただろうか？そんなことを考えながら描きました。
